SD Eye & Fingerprint Logo Design

I designed the SD logo for the SeeingDreams brand. Symbolizing the shape of both an eye & fingerprint. The eye shape ties back to [seeing] dreams, and the fingerprint shape ties back to the brand's emphasis on "creating to human uniqueness".

Details

I wanted to include intentional details that communicated the SeeingDreams brand identity — and also include the "S" and "D" letters into a more circular shape that could be easily used on apparel and accessories.

Process

Inspiration for the logo came from playing around with an eye-shaped fingerprint concept.

I then began sketching various ways to incorporate an "S" and "D" into one shape. This sketch felt too rigid and lost the eyeball or fingerprint shape.

I still decided to test the more rigid sketch in Illustrator — to see if it looked better vectorized.

This sketch had a more rounded shape that I liked.

This was the first line drawing in Illustrator — before any smoothing or work to improve the shape.

This version looked too similar to a football and lost visibility of the "S" and "D" letters. I also felt that it would not work well when placed on clothing or accessories because of how stretched it was.

For the final version, I brought back the natural fingerprint & eye shape, and gave the negative space for the "S" and "D" letters more structure.

This version incorporates a smoothed out fingerprint pattern for a more abstract look — yet still feasible for screen printing and other applications to apparel and accessories.
