Process

Product-solution brainstorming session. Walking/Performance footwear was the end choice.

Shape, outsole, details, and line inspiration. Aiming to balance a shoe that performs for senior athletes, but visually goes beyond 'old person shoe' stereotypes.

Sketches — conceptualizing various potential closure options for an easy on/off shoe.

Initial CAD drawings. Working out closure options and overall shoe shape.

Concept 1: A double BOA tightening system and various thumb holds for an easy on/off experience — concealed with a wrap to maintain a minimal/sleek look.

Concept 2 (top): showing a 'joystick' BOA design that hides the entire tightening system under a thin overlay. Concept 3 (bottom): Normal BOA with the same overlay — and a full zip down the back heel.
